VILLA O’HIGGINS
Villa O’Higgins, Heart of the province of the Glaciers.
Villa O’Higgins, is a town of 600 hab. and last populated center of the Carretera Austral. Located near the Southern Ice Fields, it has recently become a must for tourists looking to enjoy its abundant nature and its activities linked preferably to the Glaciers.
Its friendly people and its recent tourist investment, make this place an excellent alternative to stay and enjoy. Its abundant flora and fauna are ideal for those looking for that direct contact with nature.
In Villa O’Higgins there are tour operators, who can accompany you to carry out activities such as trekking to the glaciers, sighting of flora and fauna, sport fishing and horseback riding. The scenery in this area invites you to stay for a couple of days and explore its corners, such as going for a walk towards the Río Mayer sector, a place you must visit.
Another activity that can be done is to go around Lake O’Higgins. Activity that is carried out on board, where it is possible to appreciate the huge icebergs that fall into the lake and that if you are in time, it is an activity that you cannot miss.
ROUTE CONDITIONS
The route is narrow and gravel / gravel, therefore you must exercise extreme caution in speed and turning. Especially in the blind spot sectors, given the size of the Motorhome. In the same way, we recommend you to be kind and take the step to the other Vehicles.
Be careful with the raising and lowering of the barge both in Puerto Yungay and in Río Bravo.
In winter and depending on weather conditions (mainly snow) it is not recommended to do this adventure in Motorhome.
REST AREAS
Along this route (from Cochrane) and mainly in the vicinity of the towns, the places where you can park the Motorhome are concentrated. Given the narrowness of the road and especially after crossing the “Vagabundo” sector, there are few places to park.
There are a total of around 5 natural viewpoints (most of them close to Villa O’Higgins) where you can park. We particularly recommend an access to the Swan Lake beach, where you will have an exceptional view.
In the town itself, you can park on the way to Lago O’Higgins or in the Plaza itself. Rest assured, there is also a private campsite.
