Queulat National Park
The hidden treasure of the Queulat National Park.
The Queulat National Park is today one of the most visited by tourists who travel the Austral Highway. Located 165 km north of Coyhaique (4 to 5 hours of travel), it dazzles with its humid leafy forests, waterfalls, fjords, rivers and mainly, for its hanging snowdrift called “Queulat” (translation; distant lands), the which imposingly invites its visitors to stop and tour its surroundings.
In relation to the fauna present, the black woodpecker, condor and chucao stand out. Among the mammals, the pudú, wink and puma are present. Within the flora present in the place, you can see species such as the lenga and coigüe de Magallanes, among others.
Queulat National Park is managed by CONAF (National Forest Corporation). Among the activities that you can do stand out; fishing, hiking, flora and fauna observation, photography, navigation and cultural tours. This park has a small museum, where you can see photographs that show the shocking retreat of the ice.
ROUTE CONDITIONS
The route in this section is gravel / gravel. In this section we find a route of great amplitude. We advise you to be careful with speed, with sharp turns and with blind spots on the route. (Currently there are road improvement works in the sector, therefore, look at the road signs for possible areas of forced detention).
REST AREAS
In this section, there are rest areas near the sector called “Cuesta Queulat”. In particular, we recommend that once you have entered the park (a few kilometers north of the Puerto Cisnes crossing), stop at a natural parking area near a waterfall, another sector where you can park is in the parking area of the “Enchanted Forest” trail. “(Both are signposted).

Travel tips

Watch out for access to the campsite.
Although the accesses are enabled and improved year after year, there are areas where tree branches usually protrude in the access, therefore you should be careful not to break anything, it is best to ask the administration about the sites enabled for vehicles "big". -
There are no supply establishments on site.
In the access to the camping there are no supply places. In summer, a couple of cookers are installed offering food sales. The closest town where you can get your supplies is 23 km north on the Carretera Austral (gravel / gravel road). This town, called "Puyuhuapi", has all the basic services. -
Visit PUYUHUAPI.
If you pass through the Queulat park and then continue north 23 km away. An obligatory stop is Puyuhuapi, land of Chilote or German settlers, their houses are a clear example of their Chilean-German roots. -
There are hot springs in the sector (Termas de Puyuhuapi and Termas Ventisquero Puyuhuapi).
